Why Won't My Car Start? The Battery Diagnosis Checklist
Click-click-click? Total silence? Dim dashboard? Here's what each symptom means.
Click-click-click when you turn the key
Classic flat-battery symptom: the starter solenoid is engaging but there's not enough current to crank the engine. 9 times out of 10 it's the battery.
Total silence — no dashboard lights
Either a completely flat battery or a corroded terminal connection. Wiggle the terminal clamps — if lights come on, you need a clean and tighten before condemning the battery.
Cranks slowly, doesn't fire
Battery is on its last legs OR the alternator hasn't been charging properly. A pre-fit check we carry out tells you which.
We come to you with a fully stocked van — most no-start jobs are completed within an hour of arrival.
