Slow cranking, dim headlights, dashboard warnings — what to watch for before you're stranded.

A car battery rarely dies overnight. Here are the seven most common warning signs UK drivers see — usually weeks before total failure.
- Slow, laboured cranking when you turn the key
- Dashboard battery or charging-system warning light
- Start-stop suddenly disabled (often the earliest sign)
- Dim headlights at idle, brightening as you rev
- Electrical glitches: clocks resetting, infotainment rebooting, key fob range dropping
- Battery visibly swollen, leaking, or corroded around terminals
- Battery age of 4+ years combined with any of the above
Any two of these symptoms together is a strong sign it's time to replace. We can come to you and test free of charge before you commit.
